Business overview
You have probably filled up at one of their pumps without noticing the name had changed. Nayara Energy was Essar Oil Limited until May 2018. The business itself goes back to 1989. It refines crude and sells the output, run out of Mumbai. India, South Africa, Singapore, Mozambique, the UAE and other markets besides. The product list covers bitumen, fly ash, high-speed diesel, high-flash high-speed diesel, petcoke and sulphur. The refinery is the asset that matters. One of the largest single-site facilities in India, 20 MTPA, complexity index of 11.8. That works out to roughly 8% of the entire refining capacity of the country, which is a startling share for a single plant. The company sits right across the chain, refining through to marketing, and wants to push further into crude-to-chemicals. The fuel retail network has been growing quickly as well. Ownership is the complicated part. A leveraged buyout closed on 30 December 2015 and took the company private. Rosneft bought in during 2016, alongside an investment consortium led by Trafigura and UCP Investment Group. Rosneft, for scale, is the largest publicly traded oil and gas producer in the world by liquid-hydrocarbon output and reserves.

₹ crore. A year with no reported figure is left out rather than drawn as zero.
- Revenue

Every ratio here is worked out from the reported figures in the Financials tab, and valuation multiples from the indicative price in the header. Nothing is a stored value. A ratio the filings cannot support (a line not reported, or a zero or negative base) is left out or shown as —, never as a misleading number. Balance-sheet ratios use year-end figures.
